We tried to go to the Kurt Cobain exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum, but alas, the SAM is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. We’ll try again later in the week. Meanwhile, having discovered ourselves barred at the museum door, we marched up the block to Pike Place Market.
Let the photo frenzy begin.
Main entrance on Pike Place.
Famous fish market just inside the main entrance.
Love the architecture!
Peeling ads.
Random lady. I liked her red hat and flowers.
Pineapples and mangoes.
Market Sparrow.
Peppers.
Flower boxes adorn much of the the roof line.
More iconic signage.
Seattle = coffee.
Piroshky piroshky
Curtis modeling frames at Market Optical Inc.
Sunflowers.
Love the colors.
Love the signs.
Actually, I love pretty much everything about the market. I don’t know how many times I’ve been there, but I never get tired of the sumptuous feast for the senses and the photographer’s lens. Sorry if I went a bit overboard here, but — to put a slight twist on an Anne Shirley quote, “If you knew how many other photos I took and wanted to post, but didn’t, you’d give me some credit.”
Thanks for understanding. See you tomorrow . . .
Love, Jeanne-with-an-e

I’ve never been to seattle, but Seattle once came to me. I was at a conference in Baton Rouge, and one night the after-dinner motivational “speech” was by the crowd at Pike Place Fish. Part of the event was to pass a raw (and dead, thankfully) fish from one person to the next. About 200 people passed that fish around.
And some people might accuse you of slyly slipping in a photo of your grandbaby, but we grandparents know better.

Wow Jeanne. Great photos. Never been to Seattle but what caught my eye was the name of the market. It’s the Fish Philosophy’s source of inspiration; corporate trainings can be fun at times. 😉

Thanks! I heard about the Fish Philosophy only recently. The workers definitely have fun at Pike Place Fish, and there’s always a mob standing around with cameras. I had to weasel my way in to get a shot that wasn’t mostly the backs of other people.

I’d love to go to Seattle just because it’s such a great place for coffee, even though I am not a huge coffee drinker. I love the photos you shared and the signs are very cool and the colors are great, especially with the flowers.

Nice shots of Pike Place. Did you happen to shoot anything at the French bakery there called Le Panier? I worked as a baker in that shop for a couple of years starting 25 years ago and really enjoyed being a part of the Pike Place Market scene. Lately I have been looking for images of Le Panier now that I live on the other side of the country (where I blog about bakeries!)

Wow. I wish I had a photo I could send you. We actually entered the market from a side street where there was a sandwich board sign advertising Le Panier, and I came *this* close to photographing the sign. If we go back before we leave town, I’ll be sure to get several shots for you.

I am from Seattle, I was just on my my R&R Leave from Afghanistan and took a visit to the good ‘ol Pike Place Market one Saturday morning. It SCREAMS Seattle, and never gets boring. I’ve been there countless times as well, you can’t help but be overwhelmed by the excitement in the air. Thanks for the amazing pictures that remind me home, I’ll be there soon!!! Again, great pictures! 🙂

I’ve only been to Pie Place Market once when visiting Seattle, but it was a great time. It has the same richness as Quincy Market in Boston or the Union Square Farmer’s market in NYC. All are a great source for sustainable food. Highly recommended!

I live in Seattle and the market never gets old for me. We take everyone who comes to town there. However before I moved here I stayed at the Green Tortoise Hostel (on the same block as the market) and had a wonderful view of the activities there all day and night since my bunk was right next to the window. I think it was a part of what made me fall in love with the city.

Born and bred Seattle-ite, the Market is a crazy place that holds a place in many hearts. By far my fav. thing to do there, though, is to wander through, then sit in Le Panier with a cup of coffee and pastry, and people watch. The city holds so many great things to do, such as ride on the worlds largest mosiquito fleet (our ferry system), the EMP and Science Center, saying hi to the Troll in Freemont, or getting out of the city and exploring our rain forest, beaches, and desert. Thanks for the great shots of one of the best loved icons.

I agree, Tara! No better place for people watching than Seattle. I’ve never lived here, but my daughter has since 2001, so I’ve visited many times. It’s the best of all worlds — water, mountains, and the many cultural advantages of a big city. Now that we have a grandbaby here, the pull is almost irresistible. We may be Seattle-ites before too long ourselves. 🙂

I really love these photos. Seattle is #1 on my list of cities to visit one day and I’ve done so much research on the place that it’s quite ridiculous. What kind of camera do you use? I have been into photography for seven years and just got the Canon Rebel (after suffering with an old 35mm Canon film for six and a half of those years), but I can never seem to take a crisp photo such as yours. The colors in your photos of Pike Place Market just jumped out. Love it!

Seattle has always been a city I’ve wanted to see…and perhaps one day I’ll actually make it there. While I admit, the fish market is not particularly high on my list of places to visit, the market definitely would be. Your pictures are so vivid, and if I never make it there, at least I have a taste of it…

Great photos and congrats on Freshly Pressed!
Anytime I come home to Seattle, the Pike Place Market is one of the first things on my list to visit. It’s so beautiful, colourful, welcoming; so Seattle. It’s one of my favorite places in the whole world.
Hope you manage to get into SAM and be sure to check out the monorail too. I was shocked to find out recently that it’s only $2 each way! It’s a short ride (someday hopefully it’ll go more than a mile), but a nice way to see the city – sans the EMP eye sore of course. 🙂

I like your photographs a lot! You have a way of picking out nice colorful subjects and framing them well. I especially like the lady in the red hat and the sunflower image. Nice. I really like the fish at the market there but I always have to remember to purchase a new refrigerator water filter when I buy fish or the ol’ kitchen and fridge starts to smell a little rank.

I loved your colorful pics…seeing them takes me right back to one of my favorite markets in the world, Pikes Place. Have you ever been to Granville Island in Vancouver?
