Of fashion, concerts, and chocolate dreams.

This is an interesting place to live. Jacob is rocking out in the den, thanks to a Jars of Clay DVD. He can’t just watch a concert. He sings. He shouts. He stands. He claps or raises his hands. It’s an interactive, aerobic adventure.

And then there’s George. My fashionisto. I chuckled when he walked by moments ago, and he didn’t have to ask why. He said, “Haven’t you ever heard of that famous painting, The Blue Boy?” Yes, as a matter of fact. I’ve even seen it. And, trust me on this one, George’s heathered-blue t-shirt, matching boxer shorts, smart-wool socks bunched down around his ankles, and teva sandals are not likely to inspire enduring art. Unless this journal post counts.

He has really cute legs, though.

In other news, Nathan Bach’s piano concert Saturday night was a grand success. I sat on the front row, left side, to ensure an unobstructed view of his hands. When he first started playing, I couldn’t shake sympathetic nerves and just relax. But after a song or two, I was totally into it. By all appearances, so was he. I’ve decided music is my favorite language.

There were several choreographed interruptions. Nathan’s college-aged daughter, Natalie, came out after the second song and asked if he’d listen to a piece she’d been “working on.” She then played the fire out of Rachmaninoff’s Prelude in G minor. After the concert, a wealthy philanthropist in the audience approached Natalie and offered to finance any future educational pursuits. Yep. It was that good.

A little later, two teen-aged daughters (Nathan has ten kids) came onstage and requested equal time with their sister. They handed him the music to Sisters and proceeded to sing and dance with such adorable stage presence, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen would have been jealous. I’ve lost count of how many people approached me afterward–and again this morning at church–to compliment their dance steps. But I didn’t choreograph it. They did it themselves. Multi-talented family.

Later in the program, Charlie Head (“Senor Cabeza” as Jacob used to call him) moseyed out with his clarinet, and together he and Nathan smoked on Duke Ellington’s “A” Train and Autumn Leaves. Charlie Head is precious. He doesn’t get around like he used to, but he will always, always be cool.

I’m happy for Nathan. For a long time he’s dreamed of producing this CD and throwing a concert for its debut. He has to be pleased with the results. The concert rocked; the CD is awesome. And, yes, Luke–you will have your very own autographed copy. Nathan really misses you.

There’s lots more I could say about the weekend, but nobody likes journal entries that ramble on and on forever and ever without any real thread of continuity other than the fact that all the ramblings are flowing from the mind of a single person who can’t seem to find a stopping place amidst the neverending parade of less-than-enthralling details of her pedestrian life which consists of mostly normal stuff with only occasional variations and always, at least once a day, some chocolate. Dark, of course.

Time to say good-night. May your dreams be as sweet as chocolate and as magical as music. I think mine will be about a boy in blue. ♥

  4. The concert…wow…I was blown away.

I need to tell you, I won’t be at church for the next two Sundays. I will be in El Paso, then in San Fran. Sorry I didn’t tell you sooner…

    Thanks!
