I posted today on The Master’s Artist about Community Art, a topic that was largely inspired by the past two months I spent choreographing Bye Bye Birdie for Marshall High School. What a delightful privilege to work with such a talented and awesome bunch of kids! And guess what? You’re invited to join the fun! Performances are this Friday and Saturday at 7:00 PM and Sunday at 2:00 PM. If you live anywhere within flying distance of East Texas, you should plan to come. (Hint: That’s anywhere.)
Here are a few shots I captured during Wednesday night’s rehearsal:
“Kim McAfee.” Doesn’t Kelsei look like a blond Audrey Hepburn? And she sings like an angel.
“Rose Alvarez.” Jo is a fabulous actress and singer. The total package.
“Albert J. Peterson” and his manipulative mama, “Mae.” Austin’s voice could melt butter, and Emily is hilarious.
“Conrad Birdie.” Kendal has got the moves, and when he sings . . .
The chicks go crazy!
Poor “Harry McAfee.” Nhagii gets no respect. But at least . . .
They’re gonna be on Ed Sullivan!
Then there’s “Hugo.” Even after Kim assures him she cares nothing for Conrad and a steady is forever . . .
Sam still tries to drown his sorrows. (Too bad he can’t convince the bartender he’s 32.)
Conrad gets the key to the city . . .
The teens of Sweet Apple have a lot of livin’ to do . . .
And Albert and Rosie live happily ever after in a split-level flat in Pumpkin Falls, Iowa.
Tickets are available from performers or at the door. Hope to see you there!

What fun! It looks like it is a great production. I bet the choreography rocks! It might even be worth a flight from WV :). But…with the holiday and all…I’m just going to enjoy it through your lens. And words, of course. Heading over to read your article…

Thanks, Laura! Opening night was fabulous. Wow. As many times as I’ve seen them rehearse, I was blown away. And the audience was great, too. Laughed and clapped at all the right times. Wonderful energy.
You can still make it if you catch a flight today . . . 😉

Aren’t you grand! Choreography feels like a bit of a mystery to me. So I can be in awe of you. 🙂

How sweet. No awe necessary, L.L., but thanks for thinking I’m grand. 🙂
