Day Six in Seattle: Westlake and Green Lake

As part of Seattle’s Summer Busking program, Jubilee performs at the Westlake Center every Tuesday (weather permitting) from noon to 2:00 PM. “Weather permitting” is a Seattle byword, but weather was permitting big time today, and I was excited. I love, love, love hearing them sing.

A few minutes before we arrived, Grace called the city employee who sets up the sound equipment to let him know we were almost there. She listened to him for a bit, then said, “Oh.” More listening. “Oh. Okay.” When she hung up she told us someone had accidentally double booked a dance group during Jubilee’s usual slot. They’d still get paid, but they wouldn’t be needed.

I admit I was disappointed. I was looking forward to capturing some great shots of Busking Sparrow, but nothing could be done. Instead we did some shopping, then went for a stroll around Green Lake. Not a bad way to spend a gorgeous Seattle day.

Downtown architecture with a European flavor.

“The bluest skies you’ve ever seen in Seattle.” (Name that TV show.)

Westlake Center mall

Retro phone at Anthropologie

Wading pool at Green Lake

Enchanted forest. (Or at least it looks like it would be.)

Shady path

Boats for rent

Sleeping Lake Sparrow

Those cheeks. Those eyelashes. Those lips. My heart may explode.

Ripening berries.

Echinacea flowers.

The Busking Sparrow proved elusive, but the Lake Sparrow made up for it. Tonight we drive to Bellingham, and tomorrow we plan to boat to the San Juans. Perhaps the Island Sparrow will make an appearance?

We’ll see what the weather permits.
