Episode Update, in which our heroine deigns to lift a finger

I’m not a fan of deadlines for the same reason I’m not a fan of alarm clocks. Or weeding. Or sanding ornate furniture. I’ll give you three guesses why. Heck, I’ll even give you three options to choose from.
1.) I’m a lazy sluggard.
2.) I’m a sluggardly lazy head.
3.) Both of the above.
Ding ding ding! You guessed right! Give yourself a gold star and fifteen extra minutes of nap time.
Why am I confessing my shortcomings to you? Only to explain why this blog suffers from extreme neglect. Blame the blog. It never sets deadlines on me. No weeds taking over. No nasty coat of puke green paint masking pristine mahogany. Like a devoted golden retriever, it just sits and patiently waits for me to glance its way. (Wow. That image got to me. Sorry, fella. I don’t deserve to be a blog owner.)
However, like all sluggards worthy of the name, I have good excuses. Here’s a recap of the past month:
I spent June 17 through 26 in Seattle visiting Grace and Curtis. Such fun! My Adorableness Meter maxed out upon arrival and pretty much stayed there. Among other delights I got to sit in on a Jubilee band practice, help Grace select some decor items for their cozy little abode, Gypsy Cottage, participate in two community-group gatherings (every Tuesday a group of friends gather to share a meal, read a portion of scripture, and discuss it), celebrate Grace’s birthday with shopping and breakfast at The Dish, walk around Green Lake several times, eat fantastic Indian food, prepare meals with Grace in her kitchen, watch the progress on their deck project, and hang out with a bunch of their awesome friends. Lots of photos. Lots of music. Lots of laughter. Lots of love. Doesn’t get much better than that.
Upon my return, I attended a reunion of my high-school youth group in Dallas on June 29, and on the 30th I picked up Luke at DFW! First time to see him since he left for Ivory Coast, West Africa, on September 26 last year. The next day we loaded my Mini Cooper, stopped in Denton to stuff my nephew in the back with the luggage, and headed to the Rocky Mountains for a week of cooler temperatures amid gorgeous surroundings. Hikes. Bike rides. Fourth of July parade and fireworks. More photos. More music. More laughter. More love.
Since then I’ve mostly been wearing my photographer hat. I took my niece’s bridal portraits and will shoot her wedding on August 9. In the mean time I’m playing with a new flash I bought and experimenting with camera settings–learning a lot I should have learned a long time ago when I first got the camera, but better late than after a family wedding, eh?
As slack as I’ve gotten around here, I’ve been pretty consistent updating my photo blog, and I still post on alternating Thursdays at The Master’s Artist. Today’s post is about those ever-popular Smoots and Sheppeys. And for those who prefer more serious fare, two weeks ago I posted a poem inspired by our return drive across Texas on Hwy 287.
I haven’t even begun to tell you about George’s adventures, including a productive June spent in Ivory Coast with Luke, a week in Florida, a trip to the emergency room, and an apparent case of malaria. Just your typical slow-paced summer fun. But I’ll have to come back to that. I see by the clock that I’m about to miss a deadline.
Time for my mid-afternoon beauty rest.

  1. Sounds like a wonderful summer. And my blog suffers from the same kind of neglect, just without all the fun reasons for it.
