Keeping oceans within reach

Yesterday I returned home after a week in Seattle helping Grace and Curtis make wedding plans. We had a fantastic time and accomplished quite a bit. Oh, man. They are way too adorable. I had so much fun just watching them together. It was a rich and precious time.

We laughed a lot, talked about life, soaked in each other’s presence. And I got to hear their music. Thursday evening the two of them sang at the Crowne Plaza hotel–a weekly gig they do without the band. Very mellow. Classical guitar. Some Brazilian tunes in addition to Curtis’ original songs. Friday evening Curtis’ band, Jubilee, performed at The Triple Door, a primo Seattle venue where they play every week. And Saturday night Grace sang with the band again at St. Cloud, a restaurant in an older, upscale neighborhood. Three locations with distinct atmospheres. All great. I loved every minute of it.

Saturday afternoon we drove out to Rosario Head. What a gorgeous setting for their wedding! I posted some pictures here. Pray for beautiful weather on September 15.

Grace’s house is about a block from Green Lake, a popular recreational area. The three-mile paved path around the lake is perfect for joggers, roller bladers, moms and nannies with baby strollers, and dog walkers. I jogged it once, walked it twice, and double-lapped it one afternoon with Curtis’ mom. (We had a lot to talk about.) I took my camera the last day. You can see some of those pictures here.

I can’t wait to go back again. But in the mean time, today is my sister’s birthday. Tomorrow is George’s and my 28th anniversary. Luke graduates from Wheaton on Sunday and comes home next week. And Jacob’s birthday is on the 10th. So much to celebrate! My jubilee just keeps getting better and better, and it’s not even half over yet. Don’t you wish you were turning fifty?
