  1. A welcomed “blast from the past”

    Mrs. Jeanne,

I am not sure exactly how I came across your LJ…late night searching through Marshall journals and comments/friends’ lists I guess. I am so glad to be able to read it and catch up with your beautiful family. I sat up last night until 3am while my kiddos and husband slept…I couldn’t pry myself away. Reading from the beginning it brought back so many memories. And I only have made it through 2003! I can’t wait to read the rest.

I especially enjoyed (well I don’t think that’s the right word) reading your 3 posts about Jacob. That truly rocked me to my core and I could not stop sobbing. I never was blessed to met Jacob before his accident, but “knew” him as well as I could have hoped through mutual friends. When I heard of what happened that day in May of 1996 I could not get him out of my head (and prayers) and still can’t. Now being all grow’d up with a family of my own I can not imagine the pain and heartache of losing your “old” son, but also the rejoicing of the miraculous birth of your “new” son. Both Jacobs are such a blessing and have touched so many lives.

I ran into Natalie a couple weeks ago at Homero’s. I didn’t realize how much I missed her and all my Trinity friends. My oldest child, Cass, started Trinity pre-K3 this past week and it brought back so many memories of my time there. Mainly going to visit Jacob and the slapstick humor that would result in him laughing so innocently and the delight it brought all of us girls. I still have my yellow “Pray for Jacob” beaded safety pin on my left Birkenstock and will never voluntarily remove it. It has much meaning to me in so many ways. I don’t think there’s a day that goes by that I don’t think about him or your super cool family.

Grace and Luke were two of my favorite “kids” at Trinity and I am still floored by their wit, humor and worldly/scholarly wisdom. I was able to read the first (well I guess it’s the last) page of Grace’s journal of her travels abroad. My husband and I very much enjoy European travel and I was so engrossed in her writing…simply amazing. She has a marvelous gift with words, no doubt inherited from her mama. I will pass it along to Jay so he can experience it as well. He took a very similar trip when he graduated from vet school. We will be heading back to bella Italia in November (with both kids, please pray for us! lol) and I only hope my journal entries can be as descriptive and pensive. I have kept half hearted travel journals over the last 5 yrs and wish I had been as thorough. She will treasure those entries for a lifetime. I truly felt like I was right along with her on her adventures. How wonderful that she is experiencing so much culture and history, I am so happy (and a wee bit jealous 😉 ) of her. Reading about Luke at Wheaton and what an amazing person he has grown into doesn’t surprise me in the least. He was always so intuitive and thought provoking and I knew he would be extraordinary in whatever he put his mind to. It is also especially heart warming to look back on the comments and conversation between the two of you. I can only hope to have such a substantial and unrestricted relationship with my children as they grow. Please give them both my well wishes and greetings.

We are headed to Oregon for Labor Day weekend for a business trip and a little bit of fun. I was trying to decide what my plane (and spa!) reading should be. I will be ordering your book as soon as I finish this comment. I honestly probably will not wait to read it, and I will still have to find plane reading material. That’s a great “problem” to have though! I am on pins and needle for Parting the Waters. I read the first 2 chapters from your website and it left me both speechless and longing to hear the rest of the story. I am sure it has been extremely hard and also therapeutic to write.

I will go now, because I am writing a novel here. I just wanted you to know how very happy I was to find your journal….you now have another faithful LJ follower. 🙂 Thank you for sharing so openly.

    Much love,
    Ashleigh (Maranto) Anderson

Had to add that I recognized Grace’s unmistakable blue eye as soon as I saw it.

I just came across her 8th grade school picture the other day! 🙂

Ashleigh, you can’t possibly imagine how much your words mean to me. Thanks for being interested enough to go back to the beginning of this journal and plow through it all. Wow. I’m honored beyond words!

As soon as I saw your name I pictured your cute, petite self and smiled. How exciting to know you’ve embarked on the adventures of motherhood! Keep your seatbelt fastened. It’s a wild and amazing ride. 😉

Thanks also for reading the chapters posted on my website. Several publishers are considering that book, so we’ll see what happens.

I’m deeply touched that you still have your yellow-beaded pin and think of us so often. Everything you said here made my day. Probably my month.

    Much love to you, too.
    Jeanne
