A morning prayer.

Maker of moments, Designer of days,
Purify my motives — let my ways
Be sanctified, from selfish aims
Redeemed. And when I cannot see
For churning passion (mud-encumbered
Ego feet, dragging half the world), free
This foolish bird who simply longs
To fly. Loose the chains of gains
That weight the wings, and sing
Your freedom into every sigh.
The world gets smaller
The higher I fly.

Amen.

  1. nicely done

When it comes to poetry, I’m…um…well, whatever is on the rung below idiot.

That being said, however, this one seems really great (note, if you dare, the sheer depth and insight of my critique).

  3. Yes, very nicely done

    very nice Jeanne.

I think my boys have been inspired by Luke. They are both blogging now and have both posted a poem this week. Both were not bad for first efforts, if I must say so myself. If you’re interested I’ll send you their “addresses”.

  5. I do think you’re a better poet. And–judging by the above profusion of punctuation marks–quite the emotive one, too.

Thanks for the compliment. I take it as intended and value it muchly.

  7. Re: nicely done

Oh, you! :o) I’m running out of space on your score sheet, Mike. Let me know next time you need to send a query to a publisher, and I’ll update your total points for inclusion. I think they’ll be impressed. (I would be.)

Thanks for the kind remarks, insightful critique, and for making me laugh.
