Revue in Review: one reason why I love my life

If you’ve been feeling unappreciated or ignored; if your ego needs a little boost; if you want to know what it feels like to be surrounded by adoring fans, I have just the thing for you.

Become a choreographer.

2005 marks my eighth year working with the local high school choral department on their musical productions. I love these kids, and apparently the feeling is mutual. When I walked in for the first rehearsal, they broke into spontaneous applause — and they hadn’t even seen the dances yet. This, my friends, is not a particularly unpleasant feeling.

True, I didn’t get much else done in my life from the moment in early January when the director handed me the music until the final curtain call this afternoon. But any frustration I may have experienced due to the time-intensive nature of this venture was more than recompensed by the gratitude of the director, the students, and their parents and friends. If I could bottle all the love and sell it on eBay, I’d be a billionaire.

The students amaze me. They work with the diligence of professionals, and they perform with remarkable confidence, personality, and pizzazz. I wouldn’t be surprised if a few from this group ended up on Broadway.

So today was the final staging of their Disney Revue. Adorable show. Sparkling performances. Terrific audiences. The director heaped garlands of praise on my head and had me stand in a spotlight for applause before the show. Then I even got to dance onto the stage at the end, bow, and sing, “Now it’s time to say good-bye to all our company . . .” with the students. Fun times, followed by hugs and various expressions of wonderment over my unsurpassed gifts and yada, yada, yada. No, I don’t let it go to my head. But yes, I do enjoy it.

So, tomorrow it’s back to the daily grind. The hours type-type-typing away at a computer, writing what I hope people will one day want to read. A solitary lifestyle. But that’s okay. I think I’ve got enough fuel in the old love tank to keep me warm and cozy for quite a while.

M-I-C . . . See ya real soon! K-E-Y . . . Why? Because I like you! M-O-U-S-EEEEE!

  1. how very cool is that?

Jeanne, good for you. I have a couple of lovely ballerinas in my immediate family – a seven year old and her mommy (aka, love of my life and the prettiest girl in the whole wide world). I’ve arranged many a note in my day, but nary a dance step. Still, what a thrill to see/hear it all come together.

And of course there’s that nasty rumor on another site that I’m actually the Riverdance guy…and that’s only partially true.

  3. No wonder your kids are so adorable, check you out it, in all your glory!! I always wanted to dance and I always had a secret little dream of doing choreography (even Miles doesn’t know that!)

I would have known you by the Riverdance comment, even if you hadn’t signed your name.

Yay for lovely ballerinas. Your children will grow up with dance and music. I can’t think of anything better. (Of course, that’s what my children grew up with, too, so I’m biased.)

  7. Thanks for thinking of me. I actually saw the picture earlier today. I love glimpses into his and your world, and I always appreciate photos. Great shots of the AI, too!

I’ve been stopping by your journal by way of Luke’s, but I’m going to add you to my friend’s page. It’s a shorter path. :o)

Thank you for being his friend. He is blessed.
