Not just any day.

Nineteen years ago today, I received a gift. A priceless treasure. It was small and required extensive attention and maintenance. But I didn’t mind. I cherished it.

Nineteen years ago today, I received a gift that is eternal. In an instant of time, at 1:21 PM to be exact, he drew first breath, and an immortal mortal opened blurry eyes on his new world. Soon-to-be-fallen innocence met my gaze, and I fell in love. I thought of Moses and a snatch of Scripture that says more than just words. “His parents saw that he was beautiful.” I understood.

Today is Luke’s birthday! I hope everyone will visit his journal and wish a portion of the joy his delightful presence has brought into the world the past nineteen years.

I love you, Luke. Happy Birthday!

  1. How delightful!

He has the same birthday as my father-in-law, who is one of the smartest people I’ve ever met.

It makes sense — Luke is also one of the smartest people I’ve ever met.

    What a great day!

PLUS…you got a big full page spread in the MNM! Great photos — you look about 20. Great story, too.

  2. Re: How delightful!

Thanks! I appreciate all the compliments, both for Luke and me. I guess if he’s nineteen today, I can’t be twenty. But it’s nice to think I look it. :o)
