Once, years ago, I was listening to a Rich Mullins cassette tape in my car. When I stopped in front of our house, I ejected the tape. But, without skipping a single note or breaking rhythm, the song kept playing. I stared, dumbfounded, at the ejected tape. It was clearly out of the player. What was going on?
Then I realized the radio was tuned to a Christian station, and the same song just happened to be playing–and just happened to be at exactly the same spot as my tape.
It doesn’t change the course of history, or teach me anything profound. But I’ve always thought that was really cool.
I can remember singing a song while getting ready to turn on the radio, and as soon as I turned the knob–you guessed it–the same song was playing at the same spot.
Maybe I’m psychotic, I mean psychic.
I have to know . . .
Was it in the same key?
EZ
of course, mon cheri
Chris always kids me about starting every song in the key of G, so I am sure he was perfectly attuned to the pitch.
Re: I have to know . . .
Of course. Did you really have to ask? 😛
Here’s another one. When I was ten or eleven I fell in love with an Elvis Costello song; “Veronica” I believe it was. One night while lying awake in bed (I still do that a lot), I thought, “I’d really like to hear that song right now.” So I turned on the radio and there it was, at the beginning of the first verse.
There’s a similar story involving how I got to know Jen. I was sitting bored in my dorm room thinking, “I want to go find that Jennifer girl.” (I’d only met her once or twice before that.) While walking up the hill toward the girls’ dorm, I saw her walking toward my dorm. And the rest is history. Later, she told me she was out looking for me. We were both looking for each other and met in the middle. Just like some corny country song. 🙂
Actually, that already is a song. “Stuck in the Middle with you” 🙂
Well I don’t know why I came here tonight,
I got the feeling that something ain’t right,
I’m so scared in case I fall off my chair,
And I’m wondering how I’ll get down the stairs,
Clowns to the left of me,
Jokers to the right, here I am,
Stuck in the middle with you.
Yes I’m stuck in the middle with you,
And I’m wondering what it is I should do,
It’s so hard to keep this smile from my face,
Losing control, yeah, I’m all over the place,
Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right,
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you.
Feeling trapped, are you?
I always think of corny country music when I think of you two.
Wow! I’m glad to see I’ve managed to open communication lines between you kids. :o)
That’s a sweet story about you two looking for each other on campus. It makes me think of “Strangers in the Night” or something. I remember once in the early stages of our friendship, sitting on a low brick wall outside one of the buildings at SFA, thinking how nice it would be to see George, and then looking up to see him walking toward me. I guess life is really full of those “unscriptable moments” when you stop and think about it. Probably because there really is a script writer, eh? ;o)

Amen!
ive never met my spouse like that… maybe because im not married…

The play isn’t over.
Well, we weren’t spouses when we met like that. You may have met your future spouse in an unscriptable scripted moment, and you just don’t know it yet!
Or not.
Love, Momzy
Re: The play isn’t over.
i don’t think i’ve met anyone in an unscriptable moment… spouse or nonspouse… im just a loser i guess.

Re: The play isn’t over.
Even losers have lovers. Look at Howard Dean.
blah, blah, blah
You have amazing, cool things happening to you and all around you . . . unscriptable moments every day of your life. Maybe they aren’t obvious, or maybe you’re just so used to having them happen, you don’t recognize them.
No matter what, you’re not a loser. I said so, and that’s final.
I love you!
